On-Prem - Jump Host and Distribution Server Prerequisites Check

Last Update 10 days ago

A Jump Host or Distribution Server lets you onboard and patch endpoints that cannot reach the Central Server directly, through a server inside their network. Both roles run the same SecOps relay service; a Distribution Server also caches patches and serves them to the endpoints behind it.

This prerequisite check must be executed directly on the machine that will become the Jump Host or Distribution Server. Supported operating systems: Windows and Linux.
1. Download the binary on the Jump Host / Distribution Server
Download the correct binary depending on the OS of the machine:
Windows (x64)
Download the EXE file:
Linux (x86_64)
Linux (ARM64)
2. Run the binary
The check needs administrator rights, so run it as Administrator (Windows) or with sudo (Linux).
Windows (x64)
Open PowerShell as Administrator (right-click PowerShell and choose Run as administrator) and go to the directory where the binary is downloaded.
Linux (x86_64)
Linux (ARM64)
3. Follow On-Screen Menu
Once the binary starts, you will see an interactive menu. Select:
  • Option 1 → On-Premise Deployment
  • Option 3 → Jump Host / Distribution Server Prerequisite Check
Next, select the server role:
  • Option 1 → Jump Host
  • Option 2 → Distribution Server
You will then be prompted to enter the Central Server IP.

For a Distribution Server, you will also be asked whether it downloads patches directly from the internet:
  • Option 1 → Yes
  • Option 2 → No (patches come from the Central Server)
Refer to the screenshot below for guidance:
4. Expected Output Summary
After the check completes, you will see a summary similar to:
If a check fails, the output shows what was found and the exact steps to fix it. The same list is repeated under ACTION REQUIRED at the end of the run. For example:
Important:
  • No Blockers should be present in the output. A PASS result confirms this machine is ready to be installed as a Jump Host or Distribution Server.
  • A “nothing is listening” message for the Central Server ports typically indicates that the network path is reachable, but the Central Server services are not currently running.
If this check is being performed before the central server setup is complete, then this behavior is expected. Otherwise, please verify that the services are running properly on the central server before proceeding.
  • Any Blockers must be resolved before installing the Jump Host or Distribution Server.
